What I Offer

  • Face to Face Counselling

Experience compassionate support that nurtures growth and fosters resilience. My counselling approach is person-centred, working with you on any presenting issues, and helping you unlock your true and authentic self.

  • Online Counselling

For added flexibility, I also offer online counselling for those who prefer the comfort of attending sessions from their homes.

  • Creative Writing Therapy

The power of creative work in counselling is something I believe in whole-heartedly. Sometimes things become clearer when we put things down on paper, and through the words we create, we can learn a great deal about ourselves and our journey.

  • Walk and Talk Therapy

Sometimes movement and fresh air can be a great aid when it comes to opening up. Therefore, I also offer walk-and-talk-therapy along Brighton and Hove seafront or Preston Park. Please get in touch to learn more.

How I Work

I’m a humanistic counsellor with a focus on person-centred therapy. This approach puts you at the heart of the work we do—because you are the expert in your own experience. Rather than directing the session, I follow your lead, creating a space that’s shaped by your needs, at your pace.

We’ll work in the ‘here and now’, meaning you’re free to bring whatever feels most important in the moment. My role is to be fully present with you—to offer deep empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authentic connection. I’ll listen with care and without judgement, seeking to truly understand you and help you better understand yourself.

Together, we’ll explore what’s going on for you, and work toward a more grounded, honest, and authentic sense of self.

“Maté allows a conversation to breathe in such a way that you feel refreshed regardless of the topics discussed. Having never been to therapy before I was concerned that I might struggle to partake in beneficial manner, but he has an intuitive understanding of what to follow up on which means I always follow my thoughts through.”

— Client, 2024

“Maté has been amazing, we’ve only had 4 sessions so far so we’re still warming up but I feel totally comfortable talking to him about anything and everything already. He has such a calm demeanour, he listens incredibly well and is able to pick apart what I’m saying which is so helpful. I know it’s only going to get better and better as time goes on but I feel really grateful to have him as my therapist!
